Physician Directed Smoking Cessation in the Emergency Department

Prospective quality improvement study investigating patient actions as they relate to smoking cessation behaviors, revealing that the emergency department is an appropriate venue for public health interventions. Using STIR intervention (screening, treatment initiation, and referral) in an opt-out method, nearly one-third of participants reported continuing cessation medication at 3 months.
